J&K Heavy Rains: 8 people died in Jammu and Kashmir due to heavy rains

J&K Heavy Rains: Five members of the same family died after their house collapsed due to heavy rains in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir. At another place, three people died due to a landslide. According to officials, Abdul Qayyum and Mushtaq Ahmed live in Bani area. They were staying in two different houses with their family members when they collapsed due to heavy rains. Five members of Abdul Qayyum’s family were killed in this incident. Their bodies were buried under the rubble.

Officials said that as soon as the information about the accident came to light, rescue operations were started at the scene. Three bodies have been recovered so far. Efforts are being made to recover the bodies of two others. At another place, three people lost their lives due to a landslide. Officials said that a boy was among the dead. Many parts of Jammu and Kashmir have been affected due to heavy rains. Due to sudden floods, landslides occurred in many places. Hence the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway was temporarily closed. Traffic on the Jammu-Pathankot National Highway has come to a standstill due to damage to the Chadwal bridge in Kathua district. 

Bridges, culverts and roads were damaged at many places. Katra Vaishnodevi Temple near Jammu is the basecamp for the pilgrimage. 315 mm of rainfall has been recorded here in the last 24 hours. The floods became severe. On the other hand, the water level in Tawi River has also reached dangerous levels. Due to the flood water, the construction work on the banks of this river has stopped. Most of the buildings were damaged.
